Now Open: Museum of Capitalism

December 10, 2019

The Museum of Capitalism opened recently at the Kellen Gallery at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons School of Design. The current exhibition will be on display until December 10 of this year. A bit more from the Museum website: Now Open: Museum of Capitalism

The Museum’s dynamic mix of traveling artifacts, loaned art, and new commissions takes as its theme the borders and boundaries — physical and conceptual — broke, made, and broken by capitalism. Museum-goers can ponder symbols of American freedom made by prison laborers, snapshots of secretive international tax-havens, even a custom ‘deal toy’ commemorating the US Treasury’s bank bailout in 2008.  Visitors encounter actual traders from stock exchanges around the world, witness a reverse chemical spill, experience “minimum wage,” and marvel at the world’s largest collection of branded pharmaceutical pens!  And on display for the first time: a rare encounter between the infamous street artist Banksy and the multinational corporation Walmart.
