The Department of Economic and Social History at the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies of the University of Vienna conducts research and teaching in the fields of economic and social history at a local, regional, national and global scale from the Middle Ages up to the present day. The Department invites applications for the position of a doctoral researcher (“Universitätsassistent/in prae doc”) in 19th and 20th century economic history at the candidate’s earliest convenience for a duration of 4 years.

- Writing and completion of a doctoral thesis with a focus on 19th and 20th century economic history
- Contributions to publications and presentations
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings and conferences as well as support for research projects, notably an ongoing project on the role of central banks in regional financial development during the 19th century
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching as defined by the collective agreement (on average 2 hours per week each semester)

Profile:
Profile
- Master’s degree in history, economic history or economics
- Interest in topics in financial history
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Knowledge of or interest in statistical methods and data analysis
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications are
- Experience abroad
- Good command of or willingness to learn German
- Good command of another language
