Description of the position
The University of Geneva has an opening for a “maître assistant(e)” (the equivalent of a fixed-term lecturer) in the Department of History, Economics, and Society in the Geneva School of Social Sciences. He/ she will be required to teach courses in economic and social history and political economy (maximum of 4 hours per week), to correct and grade student papers, to proctor and correct exams and to provide guidance to students in the preparation of their Bachelor projects and Masters’ theses. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong research capacity in economic and social history and applied economics. A wide variety of specialties in these fields will be considered but we are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to our research and teaching programmes in both international economic history and the political economy of capitalism. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in the field of economic history, history, economics or another social science.
Necessary skills and experiences
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in economics, another social science, or history and should be able to show evidence of his/ her
• capacity to carry out research projects (doctoral dissertation, published articles or books, working papers);
• proficiency in scientific writing;
• ease in interacting with students, if possible through teaching experience, and ability to work in a team;
• fluency in both French and English.

Further information
An initial contract will be signed for 3 years and may be renewed, subject to a performance review, for a further period of 3 years.
